Friends Reunited

On Saturday, I caught up with my friend Hannah… we met in Aberdeen when at university and have stayed in touch over the years of living in different cities and a year of us both being back in Aberdeen, but we hadn’t seen each other for a couple of years so it was lovely to hear from her to say she wanted to pop through to Glasgow for a day trip and a long over due catch up.

We met up at Central Station (I was late… some things never change) and went to Cafe Wander for lunch. We took a while to decide on food because we were chatting. I’m sure the waitresses were thrilled. I went for the Steak Sandwich and salad and Hannah had a vegan breakfast. We were too hungry/too engrossed in our conversation to take any photos of the food.

Instead of going to Starbucks or somewhere for coffee/cake, we decided to go next door to Stack & Still for pancakes for pudding.

Stack & Still – the UK’s largest urban pancake house has been open since October and this was my first visit. Safe to say, I’ll definitely be back.

When you arrive, you’re greeted by a wall of Nutella at the kitchen while you wait to be seated. You can see the hustle and bustle of the chefs at work.

It was pretty busy and there was a queue but it wasn’t long before we were shown to a table.

An impressive venue… The lighting and chalkboard menus give Stack & Still a modern and quirky vibe along with the self-serve bar. Next time I’m in I may have to have a pint to see if I can still pull one – it’s been years since I worked in a bar.

Having gallstones, I thought I wouldn’t be able to have any pancakes as there is milk in most pancakes but Stack & Still do a gluten-free/dairy free pancake. Happy days!

Hannah opted for the gluten-free/dairy free pancake with Nutella and strawberries and I had the gluten-free/dairy free pancake with Hot Fudge Sauce and raspberries.

Stack & Still was definitely the right choice for a Saturday treat day.

After a lot more chat, it was time for a wander round the shops.

First up H&M… lots of nice things but nothing that’s on my wishlist, then we headed into Buchanan Galleries and popped into Next, Oasis and Warehouse.

I tried on this top in Warehouse, loved the colour but wasn’t sure about the sleeves, so decided not to buy it as I’m trying to buy well and buy less.

I still don’t have a full length mirror in the flat (I should add that as a New Year’s resolution to get one)… so haven’t posted any outfit of the day posts for a while so snapped a few photos while in Warehouse… here’s what I wore today:

#ootd details

Coatigan – Oasis (AW18 – sold out online)

Oversized Spot Shirt – Topshop (AW18 – limited sizes available in the sale £10)

Black Skinny Shaping Jeans – F&F at Tesco £22 (SS18 available in store)

Scarf – Stella & Dot by me (discontinued)

After a wee wander round some shops, it was time to say farewell to Hannah as she got the train back to Stirling.

This French noun pretty accurately describes today… a joy! After not seeing Hannah for a few years, it was a joy to spend the day catching up.

I guess the sign of true friendship is where you can pick up exactly where you left off no matter how much time passes. You can talk about the little things, the big things and everything in between with honesty, love, compassion and humour.

I look forward to planning a trip to Stirling to see her soon and definitely won’t leave it as long to see her again.

After a couple of years of not being so sociable for a whole lot of reasons, one of my goals/resolutions for 2019 is to get better at keeping in touch with my friends so that means planning some long overdue catch ups locally and hopefully a few trips to visit people further afield… The Granite City might have to be first on the list as it’s been so long since I’ve been back.

Looking forward to a more sociable 2019.

Hope you all have a great week.

Gill x
