Christmas Gift Guide – Personalised/Handmade

I don’t know about you, but it’s got to the stage where Christmas things are appearing in the shops so I guess that means it’s time to make a start on the Christmas shopping, so I thought I’d do a gift guide for you of some things I’ve found that you or your loved ones might be thankful for on Christmas Day.

Throughout November/December, I’ll be posting some Christmas gift guides with various themes to help you out with your shopping.

Since I have some incredibly talented friends who are creative and have their own businesses, I wanted to support them, so some of the items posted will be from their businesses and others will be things I’ve come across that I thought you might like. As you might have guessed, fashion and jewellery will feature as they are some of my favourite things.

I suppose before we get on to gifts, we should start with Christmas cards. I love getting cards that are creative and a bit different. I used to love making cards… I still do, but don’t get the time to these day, so I try and look out for unique cards where possible.

My friend Gemma at iamhandmadecards will be releasing 3 new designs of Christmas cards this year. You can get your hands on them at her Etsy Shop

You all know I love my friend Prue’s business the Cool Calm Collection I’ve written about it before in a few other posts.

If you’re looking for some personalised gifts then here’s a few of my faves from there.

I was very kindly gifted a Dora pouch by Prue back in September, it was such a lovely surprise, I can rarely find anything with my name on it so it was a perfect treat.

I’m going to order one of these for my niece for her Christmas and put a few nail polishes in it. (She’s 8 years old so won’t be reading this).

If you’ve ever met me in person, you’ll know that I’m rarely without a scarf so I started the hashtag #gillwiththescarf on Instagram. I should photograph some more of my scarves… anyways, here’s some amazing scarves I found on Not On The High Street that can be personalised.

Forest & Co Faded Blue Scarf with Subtle Check £12.95

I love this colour and the subtle check means that it will go with most outfits.

If you wanted to personalise this scarf with a name, initial charm and have it come in a gorgeous gift box with a heart or initial, it would cost £22.20 but definitely worth it. This would make a gorgeous gift.

Forest & Co Personalised Colour Block Blanket Scarf £22

This blanket scarf will keep you cozy. The neutral colours will pair well with most outfits. If you would like to add a charm and embroidered name or initials it would cost £31.45.

This might be added to my wishlist for Christmas, I could do with a blanket scarf to keep warm at work, although I might have to sell some scarves on eBay first.

Handmade

Etsy and Not on the High Street are great for discovering some handmade gems.

I love this handmade tote by HotDeskFive available on Etsy. Perfect for folding and keeping in a handbag so that there’s always a shopping bag handy and you don’t have to pay 5p for a bag when you’re at the shops.

HotDeskFive Blue & White Lined Handmade Tote £12.50

Another tote bag, perfect for keeping in your handbag and for taking out shopping. This one’s from KatieAbeyDesign on Etsy.

I’ve just discovered Island Nation Studio and they have lots of great things, I look forward to popping in to the Scottish Design Exchange in Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow to see what fab things they have in store.

I love that Island Nation are trying to be ethical and are enabling customers to make a difference also.

As it’s getting colder, I’ve realised it’s almost time for gloves, but I tend to prefer fingerless gloves… partly so I can still use my phone but mainly so I can still actually do things and my hands will be relatively warm.

Slate Grey Wrist Warmers £19.95

Gorgeous 100% lambswool wrist warmers available in size small or medium.

For every item they sell, £1 goes to the charity Trees for Life working to restore Scotland’s ancient Caledonian Forest. Donations specifically go towards the plant a million trees program.

Clearheaded keeping cozy has been on my mind with this post (I’m currently sat at home with a lemsip)…

This gorgeous crochet hat by Zukas on Etsy is perfect for autumn winter. Lots of colours and styles available.

Zukas Women’s Slouchy Beanie £21

This bottle green colour reminds me of a hat I had as a student which sadly got melted by my hair straighteners. 🤦‍♀️ This one is a beauty… they have more traditional style beanies as well as other colours of this crochet one available on Etsy.

Having my own business and attending pop-ups as well as the joys of Social Media, means that I’ve got to see/if not meet some incredible local/Scottish makers.

I’ve been following Rois Scottish Sea Glass on Instagram for a wee while and love their work.

They take broken sea glass washed up on the beach and dismissed by most of us and turn it into beautiful jewellery. Head over to their Etsy shop and check them out. You can even contact them and ask if they have visited a beach that holds a special place in your heart and if they have glass from that location, they can use it in a piece for you. I might have to see if they have some sea glass from Millport since I spent many happy holidays there as a child.

Scottish Sea Glass Earrings – Silver £14

How amazing are the colours? I love that no two pieces will ever be exactly the same as the glass will be slightly different.

I met Jennifer Lemon Designs a couple of years ago at a charity pop-up at Blythswood Square when I was there with Stella & Dot and fell in love with her bold hand painted designs.

If monochrome is your thing, then you’ll love Jennifer’s jewellery and art work.

*At the moment, if you subscribe to Jennifer Lemon Designs mailing list, you get a 15% off discount code which is ideal if you’re picking up some Christmas gifts. She also has one on Instagram for her followers too.*

I currently have my eye on a pair of mismatched studs and one of the necklaces. They are gorgeous.

The beads are painted in patterns and designs found in Jennifer’s drawings and printmaking.

Each item is made to order and may vary slightly to the one photographed.

Have a great weekend.
