As the Autumn nights get colder and I’ve started Rachel Hollis’ #Last90Days challenge, I’m making sure I take time for myself each day. Usually for me that involves watching some of my favourite TV and while that’s great, there’s some great TV on at the moment 9-1-1, For The People, Instinct etc. The Resident, Chicago Med and The Good Doctor are have started back or are starting in the next week or so.
However, as much as I love those shows and it’s good to chill out, it’s not serving me… it’s not helping me develop as a person.
I used to love reading when I was a child, but somewhere along the line, I’ve lost my love of reading (possibly through university and pulling too many all nighters to study for exams).
This year I had planned to read more and I haven’t. I’ve read a couple of books, but not as many as I would have liked.
Clearly there’s been a bit of a theme around self development in my choice of reading this year.
This has to be at the top of the list. Being able to meet her and hear her talk last month was incredibly inspiring. If you haven’t read this, you should definitely add it to your reading list. You won’t be disappointed.
You can read my blog post about it here.
If you like reading someone’s honest story and letting it speak into your own life, then this is the book for you (although if you’re easily offended by swearing, then maybe not!). I bought the kindle book and having followed her on instagram for a wee while, realised that actually listening to the audio book would be better, so I downloaded the Audible version too.
This book is about ‘feeling better, by being who we are. Which is to say, big kids at heart’. I love this truth.
There’s so many valuable life lessons within this book taken from a kids perspective and and applied to our adult lives. Some of these lessons I need to get better at learning.
A collection of Cleo’s honest musings and short poems including her own experiences on everything from self care to love and everything in between.
I am slightly biased, as a Stella & Dot stylist, I’ve received incredible training from Jessica for 5 years and met her on a few occasions. She is incredibly inspiring son when she released Find Your Extraordinary I was excited to see her story and her passion available for the world to see.
This is not just a book about business/Stella & Dot, but about daring to dream. This book isn’t about having it all – that’s impossible… it’s about having what matters most to you. It’s about how to find your extraordinary – your extraordinary career, your extraordinary happiness, your extraordinary life! It’s definitely worth reading. I’ve come back to it several times since it came out a few years ago.
One book that’s on my list to read….
I bought this after reading Girl Wash Your Face, personal development is something I’ve been focussing on this year. I’ve not had a chance to read this yet but I might buy the Audible version of it too so that I can listen to it on the commute to work and highlight key parts of it that I want to remember.
As much as I love a good old paperback book, it’s just not practical these days. I carry so much in my bag as it is, so I love the Kindle App for iPad and iPhone.
It means I can read on the go which makes the dreaded commute to work pass a whole lot quicker.
