Another late post… the start of this academic term is totally messing up my blog schedule. I don’t know about you, but despite the fact it’s still relatively warm, I’ve been starting to feel fairly Autumnal this week. Probably since it’s now September.
I would like to do a capsule wardrobe for the season so I’m going through the process of doing a wardrobe edit and working out what I’m keeping, what I’m getting rid of and what needs replaced.
I’ve started to think about the things in my wardrobe that need an update and cardigans are top of my list. I live in them for most of the year. I’m not massively into jumpers (I hate wool, it makes me itchy and then I get all kinds of grumpy), but when I shop for knitwear, I opt for a soft or fine knit, I tend to go for cotton or acrylic. I do love a chunky knit cardigan as long as it’s not wool.
Here’s a round up of some of my favourite cardigans that I’ve seen online recently. I’ve not had time to try any on… but I have some time while I’m in Birmingham on Saturday so might do a bit of shopping and a try on… might even do a wee insta stories try on for you.
Anyways, first up, it’s a semi chunky knit from Topshop. I have a cream cardigan from Topshop from about 5 years ago that I love but it probably has seen better days so this would be the perfect replacement… and it has pockets! Cardigans, skirts and dresses with pockets definitely tend to be winners in my eyes!
Topshop Deflected Ribbed Cardigan £36 only available online in size 6 and 8. Wish I ordered my size the other night when I saw it. Might try in store tomorrow at lunch time or something.
Mustard is definitely one of my favourite colours for Autumn. I have a cardigan from Forever 21 but like quite a lot of my cardigans it could do with replacing.
This one from Boohoo Waffle Knit Cardigan at Next might be a great one to try and for £12 it’s a bit of a bargain.
It also comes in Boohoo Waffle Knit Cardigan – charcoal grey. Think I might need both of them.
I have lots that would go with them… I’m thinking all the leopard print things!
A Breton stripe is always a classic look, this cardigan would make a nice change from the usual Breton tops.
Warehouse White Stripe Longline Cardigan £39. I love this paired with jeans and a white top while it’s still warm, but paired with a burgundy top will transition it to autumn/winter effortlessly.
Reds and burgundy’s are another key colour for autumn. I bought this cardigan in another colour during the summer and took it back and regretted it.
I love the dark red colour of this one from Fat Face at Next but the 3/4 sleeves aren’t ideal for winter in Glasgow.
This cardigan is gorgeous… the rich purple will flatter most skin tones. Sadly it’s got wool in it so it’s not one for me, but if you can wear wool, I’m sure you’ll love it.
Next Longline Cardigan £28. I’ll be on the hunt for a longline purple cardigan, so if you see one (without wool), please comment and let me know.
Green (in varying shades) is one of my favourite year round colours, but I probably wear dark green more during autumn/winter.
This ASOS Design Boyfriend Cardigan in fine knit in dark green is definitely going to find its way into my basket to replace a Topshop cardigan that I’ve had for years.
I’ll mainly be pairing it with skinny jeans and maybe the odd tunic dress and leggings with knee high boots rather than coloured trousers (unless I find a pair of burgundy skinny jeans which I’m also on the hunt for).
An alternative to the burgundy Fat Face cardi above could be this one from ASOS, although this is more of a chunky knit.
ASOS Design Oversize Cardigan in Chunky Rib £30 this will definitely be a cozy cardi which would work at the moment rather than a jacket, but will be a great layer for those colder days.
Another chunky knit cardigan in mustard again… available at ASOS.
Micha Lounge Oversized Cardigan with Contrast Buttons £35 I would style this with a denim skirt or pinafore dress, navy top, tights and tan knee high boots. I love the contrast buttons for some added interest. Although it’s a bit more expensive than the Boohoo one from earlier, I think I prefer it, but I do love oversized things, so that could be why.
A grey cardigan makes for a perfect neutral that will work overtime in your wardrobe. It will go with so many things.
M&S Collection Textured Open Front Cardigan £35. Available in grey, plum and cream. This longline beauty is a classic piece that will transition through all seasons, pair with jeans and flats now, or dresses and boots. So many options.
I don’t usually do patterned cardigans but at the moment I’m all about animal print so I couldn’t not include some animal print cardigans.
I love this M&S Collection Animal Print Longline Cardigan £39.50. Styled with jeans a basic top and flats or boots, it adds the perfect statement to your outfit.
Also available in grey.
So that’s a few of my faves that I’ve seen online this week. Is there any you’ve seen that I’m missing out on? Where do you usually shop for soft non-wool cardigans?
Hope you’re having a fab week.
