I know this post is a bit later in the day than usual, but this week has been crazy busy… the madness of the first week of term has meant things have been delayed.
Anyways, I don’t know if it’s because I have a summer birthday or because I’ve worked in Further Education for the last few years, but the start of a new academic year, always feels a bit like a new year, the end of summer is a good chance to pause and reflect on the months gone by and set some goals for the last few months of the year (or for the full academic year).
I don’t usually make New Years Resolutions in January because I rarely stick to them… and I find that I don’t always stick to my goals if I set them… but I’d like that to change this year. I’m feeling more positive about life in general (other than a little exhausted after being unwell post Sri Lanka).
In a recent post, I wrote my 40 Things Before 40 (in six whole years – give or take a few weeks)… but it pretty much all starts with one goal which I need to get better at:
I will not break a promise to myself! If I commit to something with friends/family (unless I’m ill or there’s a genuine reason, I follow through), but all too often, when it comes to things I want to do for me, I let things get in the way like work, TV or Social Media or a million other excuses.
Here’s some of my small goals for the months (and maybe year ahead)…
This year, I decided I wanted to lose weight (and usually I stick to it for a while and then fall into my old eating habits and put weight back on), but I have been determined not to break this promise to myself. So far I have lost 3.5 stone. I still have more to go and very much a work in progress, but I am so glad I committed to getting healthier and decided I wasn’t going to break this promise to myself. I will get to my goal weight!
I would like to get a better self care routine, rather than just coming home from work and watching TV… as great as an episode or 4 of NCIS or For The People or whatever show is… I would like to read more. I used to love reading and have so many books on my kindle app that are amazing personal development books by great authors, but for some reason don’t have as much motivation to read these days. If you have any ideas feel free to comment below… or is Audio Books the way to go?
Having worked for a beauty brand in the past, I do know how to look after my skin, I have just got out of the way of having a good skincare routine… so that’s something else I would like to improve.
To get a better work/life balance, where I prioritise rest and fun stuff more.
Develop the Blog
I’ve not had as much time to devote to the blog (techy things as I would have liked, I’m still learning a lot on the go) but since it feels like a new year, I decided to change things up with the design. Sleek and simple. I hope you guys like it. I’m sure there’ll be more changes coming in the future as I learn more.
After a relatively prolonged period in hiding due to my divorce, chronic migraines then a broken ankle last year and just generally not always feeling the most sociable, I finally feel like I have got a bit of my spark back and feel more like myself so it’s time to be sociable again. That means seeing my amazing friends and family who have stuck by me through the good, the bad and the ugly of the last few years, but also making new friends. I love Social Media and having my Stella & Dot business for connecting with new people. Looking forward to a trip to Birmingham next week for Rachel Hollis – Girl Wash Your Face book signing. Can’t wait to see some of the UK Chic Tribe that I met back in June and looking forward to meeting some of the others too.
I’d love to know if you’ve set some goals for the new academic year? (Or even if you just like to set goals)… How do you plan to achieve them?
Hope you have a great weekend.
